What's Next for "The Kindness of Color"?

Oh the Places We Will Go In Year Two!

So much good has happened since the release of The Kindness of Color (you can read more about it here)! And there’s still more to come! Here are some things that are coming up I am looking forward to!

DOCUMENTARIES

Brendan Bubion, MA Cinema/Documentary, Chapman University, Orange, CA has produced a 7 minute, animated documentary short, “Growing Up Behind Barbed Wire.” It was inspired by The Kindness of Color and features a brief historical overview of our family story from Westminster to the Poston incarceration camp.  Brendan did an outstanding job and I can’t wait for its release to show it to you - hopefully year-end 2022 or early 2023! Congratulations Brendan! And thank you for spreading the story visually on film!

I just filmed some footage at the site of our old farm for The Literacy Project for the documentary they are doing on Mendez v. Westminster!  Their audience is colleges of education and classrooms, so I’ll let you know when this is available!   Thank You The Literacy Project and the outstanding film team - on one of the hottest days of 2022 in Southern California!

MORE PODCASTS

This has been so fun to be on podcasts for United Way’s “Good Willy” and upcoming ones for Vanguard University’s Education for Love and Wisdom, Dept. of Graduate Education and Chapman University’s Engaging the World series.  The podcast hosts are asking great questions which helps me to understand how people are processing our story and working to apply it!

A PARK!

The grand opening of The City of Westminster’s Mendez Tribute park is coming soon! Final sculptures are in progress and we are hopeful for a 2022 date to commemorate this landmark case!

Thank you for all your support for The Kindness of Color - Year 1!
